WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS THE BONNIE HALL MAKEOVER
Bonnie Hall renovations at Chautauqua are now completely finished and according to Liz, it looks "awesome"! Liz says even the contractor was impressed. "It's the house on Vincent Avenue that will now be noticed for it's beauty rather than it's shabbiness," he said.
Liz Wilson, Chairperson, Chautauqua Building Committee says all the donations received for the Bonnie Hall project will be recorded in a special book to be kept at Bonnie Hall. "Our appreciation for this work is extended not only to our members and excellent contractors, but also to our friend and neighbour at Chautauqua, Amelia Dean, who is a professional decorator and gave her advice on the colours and finishing touches for Bonnie Hall." Gifts given at the 67th International Convention in Ohio: Connecticut Branch
and Hartford Union - $25,000; Other donations included Michigan $15,000, Missouri $10,000, Ohio $5,000, Virginia $1,000 and of course what started it all, $75,000 from the Sunshine Circle in Florida. Many other donations helped to pay for renovations to both the interior and exterior. The total cost of the project was $ 141,508.57. "Our houses are well booked for use this summer; and I hope many more in the future will enjoy this special place called Chautauqua while staying in our impressive Order houses that you have supported, maintained and improved."

AND SONS Ottawa Ontario Canada Pictured : a one bedroom apartment with insets showing kitchen, bath and bedroom.
The beige brick 70-unit apartment building is surrounded by trees and flowers with benches and seating strategically placed to provide a shady breezy retreat on a hot summer day. Just a block from Dow's Lake and its huge park, residents enjoy the benefits of one of Ottawa's most desirable areas - something the original planners probably foresaw when they undertook this project back in the early 1960s. Last year, the Ottawa City Union - comprised of seven Circles - celebrated the 40th anniversary of the official opening of the building. Part of the celebration included a tribute to four of the original five members still serving on the apartment building's board of directors. Phyllis Lyon, Gwen Richards, Robert Thomas, W.A. Ainsworth and Violet Carter served on the board in 1965. Mrs. Lyon, Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Carter served for 41 continuous years. Mrs. Richards was a member of the board for a total of 22 years. Mr. Ted Smith served on the board for 18 years from 1987 to 2005.
The Ottawa City Union also implemented and continues to strongly support the Meals On Wheels program in Ottawa.

From the Texas Branch Newsletter . . . The First Circle which serves as an agency of the local United Fund recently received $5,000.00 as a bonus from UW to be used for its Special Needs division. Dental expenses such as tooth extractions, eyeglasses, nebulizers, and supplies for diabetics are among those things dubbed special needs. Certified birth certificates so children can enroll in Pre-K, crutches, back braces, and many non-prescription necessities are also included. A local group has supplemented The First Circle with a $35,000.00 endowment fund grant to be used for prescription medications. As medical expenses continue to rise it seems that a way always comes to allow the circle to help the truly needy. FIRST CIRCLE INSTALLS OFFICERS The

CHAUTAUQUA
SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS The 2006 Chautauqua season hosted sixteen King's Daughters and Sons scholarship students from six countries. They learned about each other and developed a strong, helpful and respectful community. Each student, after discovering the amazing variety of opportunities available to them at Chautauqua, selected courses and chose activities that suited their gifts and energy levels. The students participated in morning services by reading Bible texts and by leading reflections. They spent time meditating on their own, enjoying lectures, concerts, worship services, plays, opera, evening concerts, and making friends. Our students could be seen riding bikes, jogging or enjoying a refreshing swim in the lake. They taught each other words and phrases from their languages of English (various accents), Chinese, Hungarian, and Arabic. At the end of their four week stay, 15 students became members of the Order. They all expressed gratitude for their experiences.
As members of the Order who have contributed to this program over the years, we can be grateful for the support we continue to provide. Many thanks to the excellent leadership of Christine Dawson, Director and her staff of volunteers: Linda Wilk, Marion Cheney, Mike Kildow, and John Dawson.
