Wyolene Pointer, International Treasurer and immediate past Virginia Branch President awarding Nancy Barret, LMCC, the Founder's Award from the Branch.

In 2005, the Order established a new award to honor the spirit of the Original Ten Founders. Designed for members who are doers of the word and not hearers only, this award is symbolized by the double heart pin. The pin, worn my Order members in the early 1900s, holds a Maltese cross engraved with IHN. The year of the presentation and the initials of the honoree are engraved on the back. Honorees should demonstrate one or more of the following qualities of the Founders: Margaret Bottome's spirituality and leadership; Mary Lowe Dickinson's great vision of the future and ability to communicate; Isabella Charles Davis' rousing enthusiasm; Mrs. Theodore Irving's interest in young people; Miss Georgia Libby's devotion to friendship; Mrs. Frances Payson's beautiful character; Miss Susan B. Schenck's interest in missions; Mrs. Courtland DePeyster Field's consecration to The King; Miss Helen Hammersley's good works; and Mrs. J. F. Ruggle's willingness to serve.
If you are interested in awarding this pin to a member of your Circle or Branch, contact Headquarters (716-357-4951) for further details.

LETTERS FROM KENYA

The following letters were sent to past president Susan Kildow and Carolyn Glenn from recipients of IOKDS funding through the Kids Alive project.

Kiganjo, Kenya

Dear Madam

It's with great pleasure that I'm writing this letter for awarding me a scholarship this year. I'm very grateful for the continued support. However, I wasn't able to join the Aga Khan University this year due to limited space. The funds you have sent I have received and have already started some studies in a College known as Kenya Institute of Management. The course is a diploma in Health Care Management. It has two semesters, first semester ends in December 2006. The second semester will end in July 2007. The mode of study is afternoon classes three days a week. This is very flexible as I have to study as I work in the Clinic.

In Kids Alive Kenya, at the Centre where I reside, we take care of children living with HIV/AIDS among others. The Centre will officially be opened in September 2006 so that it can also take care of the needs of the surrounding communities. This particular training will equip me with adequate skills to manage the health care in Kids Alive homes.

My God bless you greatly for your loving hearts to support the poor. I'm very thankful for the support and the love that you have given me. Thank you for enabling me to have a better future. I'm going to study diploma course in Special Education. My term will begin on August 2006 and the course ends on August 2008. I promise to work hard in my studies.

Dear Madam

I am pleased to send my sincere greetings in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Since the time of our last communication Our Lord has been fortunate to my life and I felt to keep His trust. I have confidence in his presence all day long.

Dear Mrs. Susan Kildow

I salute you in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, hope you are very fine and okay as I am.

I am glad when I am taking this wonderful opportunity to thank you for the much support and concern you gave me to enable me to continue to further my studies.

The Lord be with me throughout the months in school for the certificate and also to pass my exams in a way that I will be able to continue to Diploma Course.

My aim is still serving the people and children with various disabilities and to stand for their rights to be educated, taken care of without discrimination and also to ensure that the government, parents and community can support them to enable them to earn their basic needs when they are given time to participate.

I do remember you all the time.

Dear Mrs. Susan Kildow

Re: Appreciation for the Scholarship Award

Greetings from Kenya in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is to inform you of my warm and great appreciation for the continued support you have been giving to me in the form of scholarship awards. May our dear Lord always bless you as you continue to serve Him in the Ministry that He has called you into.

The assistance has made me enlightened and currently I'm still pursuing my degree in Theology. I've been able to pursue a course in Management because I am the Program Director of Kids Alive Kenya and deal a lot with management issues. I'm also doing some courses in computer to enable me to be updated and write my thesis alone.

My family is also doing fine. My son Jude is growing fast. He likes cars. Sally is 6 and is like her Mom. She likes to help her with the chores.

I keep praying for you.

In His Service
Edward

Dear Madam

Re: Appreciation for the Scholarship

I am so grateful to God for this chance that I have to truly thank you for offering me a scholarship award this year.

Last year I did a course in Business Management and passed with a Distinction. This year in July I started a course in Office Management. The course is taking half a year. I love it so much.

I want to take this chance to appreciate you for what you have done to me (us) in Kids Alive Kenya. You have the capacity to build us. As you know, Kids Alive Kenya organization has grown so fast. The scholarships have enabled us to be trained to meet the challenge of such growth.

I am married to Frederick. We have two sons, Lucas 6 1/2 and
Michael 3 1/2.

I understand that during the IOKDS National Convention, you completed your term of service. Thank you so much for your service with us in this field of awarding us with scholarships. May the Lord bless you mightily.

Yours faithfully
Ruth

PRAYER DAY - NOVEMBER 1, 2008

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Mathew 7:7

Sometimes we have difficulty knowing how to pray, or deciding what to say when we approach God. This is a prayer suggestion that was sent via e-mail. Perhaps it could be used to help make prayer come more naturally for you.

The 5-Finger Prayer

1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis said, a "sweet duty."
2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors and ministers. They need the support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.
3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the President, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. The need God's guidance.
4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger, as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble, or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.
5. And lastly comes our little finger - the smallest of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective, and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

PRAYER DAY

As we prepare to unite in prayer on this 2008 Prayer Day, let us remember to include in our prayers the following:

- Members of our family
- Those who suffer and those in trouble
- Concerns of our communities
- The world, its people and its leaders
- Missionaries and other persons in mission here and around the world
- Our churches
- Our fellow King's Daughters and Sons as we work to serve others In His Name
- Service men and women around the world who protect our freedoms

Everything you ask for in prayer, you will receive. Matthew 21:22

No Prayer Goes Unheard

--Helen Steiner Rice

Often we pause and wonder when we kneel down to pray -
Can God really hear the prayers that we say…
But if we keep praying and talking to Him,
He'll brighten the soul that was clouded and dim;
And as we continue our burdens seem lighter,
Our sorrow is softened and our outlook is brighter -
For though we feel helpless and alone when we start,
Our prayer is the key that opens the heart.
And as our heart opens, the dear Lord comes in,
And the prayer that we felt we could never begin
Is so easy to say, for the Lord understands
And gives us new strength by the touch of His hands.

Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you. Revelation 3:20
