MATERIAL President's Message Meditation International Presidents (photo) PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE The members of the 2009 Central Council of The King's Daughters and Sons met at Chautauqua, NY, August 29 - September 3. Article IX of the bylaws states that the Central Council shall exercise the powers of the General convention between the meetings of the General Convention. The Central Council is composed of Officers, Life Members of Central Council (LMCCs), and Branch Presidents. At this meeting, the leaders of the Order gathered to discuss the number one concern of our organization, MEMBERSHIP. Members of the Renewal Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Long Range Planning Committee have worked tirelessly with the Executive Committee and a consultant, Cathy Van Berkem, to develop a variety of avenues to encourage new members and to retain present members. Your representatives received manuals with membership ideas as well as participated in a number of workshops which gave them ideas to share with you. As everyone one of us who loves The King's Daughters and Sons knows, it is vital to address the membership issue. Each LMCC and the President of your Branch should be in touch with every Circle in his/her respective Branch to share the new and exciting resources. If you do not receive information by the end of September, please contact me at orderpresident@yahoo.com . Some of the data will be available on this website shortly. In addition to the membership materials, every Central Council participant received a copy of the reports and devotionals. Ask your representative to share these papers with you, too. If your Branch has not participated in the New Horizons on the Road program, now is the time to sign up. Contact me and I will put you in touch with the team that makes this program come alive in your area. In future issues of The Silver Cross, you will learn more about the membership drive. Now as the time for Circle meetings to begin again, think MEMBERSHIP. Ask a friend, co-worker, or family member to join you in this wonderful organization. All research indicates that asking is the best way to obtain a member. I was asked over 40 years ago to be a member and every day I thank God for my response.
