LABOR OF LOVE PROVIDES FOR TINIEST PATIENTS

they helped to make.

Since 1934, a small group of Dallas women have been making handmade layettes for newborns at Parkland Hospital. Filled with clothes and teddy bears, the gifts provide a little extra comfort for mothers in need. After hours of crafting each item, the En Evant Circle of the International Order of The King's Daughters and Sons present them to Parkland's tiniest patients. Making the gifts for the newborns helps keep their minds and bodies active as well as making sure the babies have what they need, explained Margaret Duncan. "Our group ranges in age from 60 to 92 year olds and we all have different talents. Some of us sew, some put on the buttons, some stuff the bears and it all just comes together quite nicely," she said. The heartfelt gifts mean a lot. "They are the quiet angels that have faithfully made beautiful gifts for our babies and supported us from the start," said Lisa Little, director of Parkland's Volunteer & Guest Services.

Through this Order I have come to know, and call "my friends", some of the most wonderful, loving and giving people. Through the Order, I feel I have been able to give service, not only to my community, but throughout the world.
