Chief
Warren Officer 2 Bruce Gentry as part of the HHD 149th Maneuver Enhancement
Brigade from Shelbyville was deployed to Iraq on June 1, 2010 as the Threat
and Vulnerability Officer at the Victory Base Complex.
The
Jennie C. Benedict Circle and the Reunion Circle
collected personal supplies and comfort items for Gentry and his fellow
soldiers that could not be purchased by them during their last several
months in Iraq, making their lives a little more comfortable while battling
war, homesickness, and sand. Each small
item filled a big need for these soldiers, for which Officer
Gentry gratefully expresses his and his fellow officers' thanks here.

Gentry's mother; and Anne Eyle. In the back, from left to right are Chief
Warren Officer 2, Bruce Gentry; Susan Thompson and Maria Newill.

Highlight from the 79th Kentucky Branch Convention
Mrs. Emily Thomas
won the 2nd Annual Jennie C. Benedict Silver Bell Award for her many
years of continued service to The King. Needless to say, she was overwhelmed.
In case you didn't know bout this award, let me tell you a little bit.
In 1886 when The King's Daughters and Sons came to Louisville via Mrs.
Duncan, she immediately involved her sister, Miss Jennie Casseday, an
invalid. Miss Casseday had a beautiful silver bell, used to summon aid
when necessary. Getting involved in The King's Daughters and Sons, Miss
Casseday contacted her good friend, our Miss Jennie Benedict, to help
start many new ministries in Kentucky which, as we all know, she did.
When Miss Casseday died in 1893, the silver bell was given to Jennie C.
Benedict to start each meeting of the Communicating Circle in Louisville.
This bell was used until Miss Benedict's death in 1928. It disappeared
and was never seen again.
The Jennie C. Benedict Silver Bell Award includes an engraved plaque and
a sterling silver necklace with a small, silver bell and the year in charms.
The recipient receives both.
You may send Mrs. Thomas a note of congratulations for receiving this
award. Her address is:
Mrs.
Emily Thomas
5700 Cropper Road
Shelbyville, Kentucky
40065
This would mean so
much to Emily. She was in tears when she received the award.
In His Name -
Charlie
