Department Awards Scholarships to Kenyan Students in 2008
Each year, the Around
the World Department of the IOKDS is proud to award scholarships to people
from countries outside of the USA and Canada who are pursuing education
in their homelands. This fall, 2008, the response to this gift of tuition
has been received with an outpouring of gratitude. Excerpts from Kenyan
scholarship recipients are included here.
"A
warm hello to you from Kenya!
I wish to take this moment to deeply
appreciate you for choosing and awarding me the 2008 scholarship.
I
have grown up being a responsible man and I took the responsibility of
assisting the younger boys in their studies. Through them I have learned
how I can help other needy young men in our community by instilling the
love of Christ in them.
I also look forward to being a successful
business man in the future." Simon Weru
"Greetings
in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
It is my pleasure to write
you wonderful people to say a big thank you for your act of kindness and
love toward me. I am overjoyed to know that God has used you to reach
out to offer your assistance. Because of you people, I'll be able to go
to school very soon.
I'm doing a course in business management for
two years. After this course, God willing, I'll proceed to pursue my main
course in health personnel. It has been my dream to do something in health
care.
I want to thank all of you who have made it possible for me
to
dream again." Nancy Atieno Nyamita
"Thank
you for choosing to be God's vessel in blessing others." Ephraim
Kabugi
"I sincerely
appreciate the financial support you have given me to enable me to become
what I dream to be, a qualified nurse counselor. I am enrolling for counseling
training
and I will continue until I graduate with a diploma in
psychological counseling. The reason why I chose to pursue counseling
first instead of a degree in nursing
is because I'm handling tough
issues here with children, staff and even the immediate community that
require counseling skills. I will later pursue a degree in nursing to
offer quality health and nursing care." Ireen Thuranira
"(I)
am glad to Him for His much, much power and protection (which) He has
granted unto you in your life.
I am thankful
since you have
contributed to a wonderful part of my life. May you live a blessed life
forever, and may He bless you abundantly
This is very great!"
Patriciah Njambi
"This will
help me to pursue a course in Hotel Management. After completing this
course, my desire is to start my own business.
In 1996, I did not
know how to read or write. My father died, and (my) mother married another
husband.
She took me to a grandmother where I was brought up.
Thank
you for choosing me to be a beneficiary, and may God bless you greatly."
Duncan Wangui
"I
(want to) take this profound moment to say a word of thanks to you.
It's
awesome for sure, your work and devotion (to) us boys. (This) will never
pass unacknowledged (nor) (un)appreciated. Besides that, (I) am still
pushing on with life quite well. I have the hope and the courage to face
life, because I know that
God is by my side, (so) who can be against
(me)? Anyway, I am still going strong, and I can say with no doubt that
I have seen God's miracles and wonders. He has done (a lot for me). He
is a good God. When I was homeless, He gave me a home; when I was an orphan,
He provided me (with) parents; and whenever I feel like giving up, He
is there to comfort me. It's a lot."
"(I) am from a single mother background. (There) are two of us, myself
and my younger brother. It hurts whenever I recall my mother. We were
left by our dear mother back in the year 1994.
We were the ages
of 8 and 6 years respectively. She succumbed to malaria.
As a result
,
we were left homeless. We couldn't go to our relatives because they were
cruel and harsh. So we opted to join the street life which was tough and
demanding. Also it was miserable and dangerous. As the days rolled over,
there emerged a certain missionary (group) whose mission was to rescue
the street children. They randomly came to our town and picked up some
of (the children). Fortunately, we are among the chosen few.
In
a short while, we were ushered in(to) primary school
(and later)
high school."
"
It's (with) God's grace that I won (this) scholarship. With
the funding, I think I will be able to transform my life through learning.
I intend to pursue pharmacy.
I (want to) once again thank you.
(I)
really am grateful.
Kudos." Alex Mwangi
