RENEWAL COMMITTEE WORKING TO IMPROVE MEMBERSHIP, VISIBILITY
Above, Nancy Barret, LMCC (left), and Janet Laude, LMCC, Renewal Committee members review an update to the Lend-a-Hand booklet. Members will be receiving the updated materials soon.
Members of the Renewal Committee are wearing t-shirts with the quote by Eleanor Roosevelt, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." (T-shirts available for sale here.) (Back row) Nancy Barret, Cathy Van Berkem, Carole Babel, Jackie Ricks, Wyolene Pointer, Mary Short. (Front) Christine Dawson and Frances Sellew. (Missing - Joyce Cote, Janet Laude, and Susan Kildow). Recently, the Renewal Committee, a temporary committee which is charged with helping The King's Daughters and Sons achieve greater visibility and membership growth, met to discuss plans for the future of this 123 year old Christian service organization. Attending were Nancy Barret, chairman (VA); Carole Babel (MO), Christine Dawson (ON), Janet Laude (PA), Jackie Ricks (GA); Wyolene Pointer (VA); Mary Short (TX), and Frances Sellew (VA). These members, along with consultant, Catherine Van Berkem of Hendon Van Berkem, L.L.C. Consulting Company, Los Angeles, CA, gathered to map out plans for investigating new avenues to target potential members throughout the world. Information from the various Branch Focus Groups was used as a guide to determine how members view not only the magnitude of the organization's projects and missions but also its importance in their lives as volunteers. The Renewal Committee discussed every aspect of The King's Daughters and Sons that relates to membership expansion. The revamping of materials and greater use of the website are priorities. Watch for New Members Kits that will assist every member in recruiting, New Circle kits, and a special edition of The Silver Cross dedicated to attracting membership. Also available very soon will be a handbook on how to hold a Christian Literacy Day. Branch Presidents will receive a 7-page update on activities related to autism and literacy which they will share with Circle leaders. (Also, check the Order's website for this update.) Goals were set for member training which will be offered at the 2009 Central Council meeting in the fall at Chautauqua, NY, and at the 2010 International Convention also to be held at Chautauqua. Soon To increase The King's Daughters and Sons' profile, once again members will participate in the 2nd Annual Educational Summit on Autism Updates March 31 to April 2, 2009, at Chautauqua, NY. An extensive report will be presented at the Central Council meeting and additional information will be available on the Order's website in the future. If you have ideas you would like to share with this committee, please contact Nancy Barret (chrissybarret@msn.com). Every member must share in this effort to help The King's Daughters and Sons be all it can be in this constantly changing and challenging world in which we live.
