HELP FILL BACKPACKS FOR HAITIAN ORPHANS
One of our partners, Kids Alive International, sponsors several orphanages in Haiti. After talking with people at Kids Alive, Janet Laude, president of the Chautauqua Chapter of KDS, found that there is an urgent need for backpacks to be filled with the following items for either a boy or girl (grades k-3, 4-6, or 7-8):
1 package of underwear
I package of socks
1 toothbrush
1 tube of toothpaste
I sturdy comb with wide teeth
1 washcloth
1 package of pencils
1 package of pens (grades 4-8)
1 sturdy pencil sharpener
1 box crayons (12-16 count)
1 box colored pencils
1 pair of scissors
Ruled paper
Ruler with metrics (grades 4-8)
Solar calculator (grades 4-8)
1 small toy (jacks, a ball, Matchbox cars, etc.)
A check for $10.00 to buy things for the new arrivals who come with nothing.
If you are planning to attend the 2010 International Convention at Chautauqua, NY, June 3-6, bring these items with you. Please put all items in a Ziploc baggie. Mark your baggie according to sex and grade. Backpacks will be provided. If you cannot attend the convention, place all items in the baggie, identify sex and grade, and mail to KDS Headquarters, 34 Vincent Avenue, Chautauqua, NY 14722 or P.O. Box 1017, Chautauqua, NY 14722.
