Julia-Ellen Smickle - A Lady and Her Legacy

Julia-Ellen Swartwood Smickle, 88, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 in Easton Hospital. Her friend and fellow KDS member, Joanne Horveath says, "She was a true lady in everything she did."

In her professional life, Julia-Ellen was a very popular social studies and music teacher in the Wilson School District. One of her former students and also a member of her KDS Circle (the Matilda Butz Chidsey Circle in Easton PA) remembers her generosity in hosting the Circle for lunches at her home.

Julia-Ellen was a Chautauqua Scholar many years ago and went on to become an accomplished musician - piano, violin and viola.

She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and also volunteered over 4,000 hours at The Crayola Factory.

She and her husband, Bill, loved animals and her last pet was a cat with a broken tail, named Bently.

Julia-Ellen ensured that The King's Daughters and Sons will be able to carry on its work by leaving a bequest in her Will. Such compassion and generosity means that our organization will be strengthened to meet the challenges ahead.

Thank you Julia-Ellen.
