CLERGY RENEWAL WEEK 2009 REPORT

  • Wonderful!
  • Fellowship in the houses was precious
  • Unstructured time was a blessing - allowed me to relax , be active as I chose
  • Bless The King's Daughters and Sons for their generous and thoughtful ministry
  • Lectures were informative - sometimes overwhelmed by the choices
  • This beautiful place fed both soul and spirit
  • This gracefilled week was a blessing - didn't realize hour I needed this time
  • Many, many thanks for a wonderful week!

These are a few of the comments from the clergy and spouses who participated in the 2009 Clergy Renewal Week. There were fifteen clergy and five spouses. They arrived on Saturday, August 15th and spent that week at Chautauqua staying at two of the King's Daughters and Sons' houses- Florence Hall and Bonnie Hall. On Sunday afternoon there was a little reception in the Fellowship Hall to enable all of the participants to get to know each other. A dinner was provided on Thursday evening where they all could evaluate their week. During the week there were many occasions where they got together and shared with each other. Other than these two occasions the participants were able to do whatever they wanted. The theme was on Cuba and the relationship with the United States and many of them attended the various lectures. This week was designed to give the clergy a time to relax, refresh and rejuvenate. They all seemed to greatly appreciate this time together and felt that it was a week well spent. Hopefully other clergy will want to take advantage of this important ministry of The King's Daughters and Sons.

CLERGY RENEWAL WEEK 2010

It's time once again to visit with clergy in your area about attending the 2010 Clergy Renewal Week session at Chautauqua, NY from July 24 - July 31. If you have, or have had, an opportunity to talk with any of the participants from the last three sessions, I'm sure that you have heard encouraging responses. They felt that the time spent there was educational, inspirational, relaxing and renewing.

Please be sure to inform everyone who might be interested that the requirements are minimal. We want everyone to know that (1) they must be recommended by a member of IOKDS, which includes the Order's Vice-President/Spiritual Director, (2) the bedrooms in all of our houses are on the 2nd and 3rd floors, (3) most rooms share a bath, and (4) Chautauqua is a walking campus - cars are left in a parking lot across from the Main Gate - bicycles and handicap motorized scooters are allowed. Our process of selection is basically on a first-come first-served basis, but priority will be awarded to those who will be visiting Chautauqua for the first time and those who are actively/currently serving as Senior Pastor of the congregation.

The theme of the week will be: "Picture This: Photography." In partnership with the George Eastman House of Rochester, this week will celebrate the history of photography, its contribution to and relationship with surrounding culture, its place in the art world and its reflection of technological innovations that have reshaped the industry. We will meet photographers practicing their craft and see this nexus of art, science, culture, biography, and history.

Clergy Renewal Week is sponsored jointly by IOKDS and the Chautauqua Department of Religion. IOKDS provides housing, breakfast foods and an evening meal. This upcoming year we will have a Sunday afternoon reception so that guests from all the houses will have an opportunity to get acquainted and be introduced to the work of IOKDS, and a Thursday evening meal to sum up the week's experience. The Department of Religion will provide gate passes for the Clergy and a time of fellowship to meet with Dr. Joan Brown Campbell, Director of the Department of Religion. Clergy are responsible for transportation, spouse gate passes (which we anticipate will be in the area of $250, but will not have the exact figure until some time after the first of 2010), all meals other than the above. Each house has limited refrigerator space, full kitchens and laundry facilities. More specifics will be sent to those who will be attending.

Applications may be received by e-mailing me at nrpointer52@aol.com or by phone at 804-693-2317 or by www.IOKDS.org. Applications may be forwarded to me anytime before the deadline of March 15, 2010. I look forward to meeting new clergy and spouses and sharing another week of relaxation, rejuvenation, fellowship and spiritual renewal.
